Are they sister airlines? I know KLM is Dutch, but is Northwest also?

No. Northwest Airlines is an American Airline Based in Detroit, Michigan and Eagan, Minnesota. It is a wholly-owned subsidary of Delta Airlines, another US Carrier.

KLM and NWA (Northwest Airlines) are partners, and you can book Flights with either airline from either of their websites. Many flights on KLM’s websites to the US are operated by NWA. You can use frequent flyer points on either airline.

KLM also have Partnered with other Skyteam Member Airlines.
